Certainly, the human heart is so deceitful entity. Now being in France, I cannot make out what I miss the most; whether I long for the sprawling green landscapes overlooking the university buildings in USA or the small garden like area of my house in India. The gentle touch of my girl friend in the states or those amusing chats with my pals at some random restaurants in Chandigarh. What do I miss the most? The question keeps reverberating in my mind, time and again these days. Well one thing’s for sure; unknowingly, Buffalo had become the second home. And I began to actually like it, though the affinity for the city of Buffalo became more pervasive after Sneha’s serendipitous entry into my life. I never knew when I started to like her and I really don’t know how I managed to kiss her without even admitting my affection for her. Wonder what was the foreplay here? So now that I am looking forward to take a trip to Chandigarh after this internship, I am still double minded over the trip. Well not because Buffalo has scored over Chandigarh, but the economics of the situation are turning the wheel. Anyways, I still have some time to ponder over that. The good thing is I am not feeling too home sick here as I did in the initial months in Buffalo. I somehow feel at home here too. The one big reason is I feel a little secure. The same feeling that I can get in Chandigarh, to a greater extent though. Unlike USA, things, objects and figures here are not too huge to give an impression of intimidating the human soul. But at the same time, USA has its own charm and lifestyle. No other country can second that I am sure. Wonder what Sneha is doing at this moment? Damn! I don’t have internet here in my room. I just skimmed though this post from the beginning, feels like ramblings of an idle mind. I guess it’s just exaggeration, in writing, of a few thoughts.

As we tread through the vagaries of our enchanted and entangled lives, falling in love with so many things, both living and motionless. We happen to cling to some and forget some over the course of this long journey. But then a few things just keep coming back in life like some old flame; and one never tends to forget it. Writing for me has always been one of the most cherished activities since my school years. Though I have a limited prowess in terms of sewing words together, but I still love to pen/key down my thoughts now and then. One needs inspiration to put thoughts into words; this is so true. A few years ago I began writing a short story but could not continue as I ran short of ideas and the all important enthusiasm. So anyways that’s my way or working or writing for that matter. Even Ghalib (some of you can read Shakespeare) must have had some blank moments. So I guess I could be pardoned as well.

Well a few comments about France first and more specifically, The French Riviera. The place is really exotic with splendid beaches and some amazing sites towards the mountains. I have had some great weekends until now. I think I deserved all this fun especially after that first night here. The only problem is that eight out of ten people on the road have dogs and none of them bothers if that canine is disposing in public place, even shopping malls. So that’s kind of weird. The sun is too strong for my liking and it is really amazing that people can afford to lay naked all day with the red hot scorching ball over head. The food, yes, that’s a thing to mention. I simply love it. Very good for my baby in my bellyJ

Right since my childhood, till this day, whenever I listen to some specific songs, they remind me of different periods of my life and my brain is quick to flash back into nostalgia and jump to those long dried drops from this ocean of time. Those hot sunny days, those morning breakfasts with my younger brother, mom and grandma; the wedding of my uncle, some seasons of the monsoon, some school days, the fist experiences in USA, the perpetual feeling of homesickness, those days of seclusion in the winter break after the first semester of MS with the world so white and dark, falling in love with Sneha, those unplanned dates. And now as I listen to these OSTs of the movie, “The NameSake”, I just feel like taking the first plane back home and sit infront of the television set in the warmth my house in my home town with the remote in hand and my mom bringing in the aloo pranthas with hot tea, and then never even going out of the house ever in life. But alas! That’s just a whimsical wish. I know everyone staying away from his/her house feels the same way, has one wish – to go back home and just relax! But knowing that life cannot be spent this way. I know the moment I go out with my friends, I will forget all about these feelings and that time of yore. So I just wonder when I am guiltier – regarding the past to be perfect or while living the life in present.

for the first time in my life...i have mused over the idea of being a pure vegetarian.

But I am not sure if I am willing to do that. Away from home, there are serious repercussions to being a vegetarian.

To move ahead you need to believe in yourself...have conviction in your beliefs and the confidence to execute those beliefs.Trust yourself and your instincts. Truth is that you know yourself more than any one else in this world. People often say that they know you well, they make assumptions or claims or whatever and they try to be well wishers...well they could be...but half of it is hoax and the other half is..well as I said.."assumptions"...so just blow away the negativity, set sail and cherish the vistas that lay ahead in the present and in the future. Would be a pity if you don't enjoy your life now...you worked for it and you pushed your way through. No one except your parents has the right to question your integrity. Some people are important in your life..as valuable as pearls...but then it's just a worldly thing. Nothing is more important than you yourself. Everyone has the right to be a little practical in life. I am, so is the bitch upstairs, the priest in the church, and so do you. You are just a human; mortal being bound to err as many times as you can, until you find and know the right answer. Look for your own peace and your own corner. I know it's hard to let go but then at the end of the day you want a slice of the bread for yourself too.

Ok now let me make a few things clear before everything. This post might not make any meaning at all or it might..but I am not really sure so I do not take any responsibility. The reason I am writing is that I just want to flush my anger…amm not really anger…could be frustration..i am not even sure about this. Anyways, since it’s my blog, I can fuck around whatever I feel like.

Number on youtube – “Tumko Dekha to yeh khayaal aya…..”

Firstly, I would really like to kill the ugly bitch staying upstairs. Why the fuck can’t they keep the noise down. I mean most of the times I am sleeping I am awaken with the reverberating thump when she (they) walk upstairs. That bitch could be half the weight I am.

So…..what have I got for you Mr. Blog….

You know, I never wanted or thought this blog to be turned into some kind of personal diary open to public. I mean not the public part…who the fuck cares even if you catch me in compromising situations. I didn’t want to pour in the vagaries of life onto the blog. But, since it is already morphed into one, let’s cry further. Meanwhile, the number changed to “Bazeech-e-Atfal..”

Well, to be true I have got into a hole, really. Infact call it a filthy pit to be more appropriate for the quagmire.

Preposterous grades are an icing on the cake…hmm clichéd statement but alas! I am not in the mood to be fancy…or wait a minute…may be it’s not the icing…could be the whole base in itself. I am just not able to figure out. Ohh yes…the icing could be going to the world’s most amazing city and cursing every minute for being there or coming back without even checking out the most talked about location in the world and not even going there being just a few blocks away.

I have a suggestion for some…ammm not really a suggestion…it’s a humble request..Please do not talk to me about what you want to about…. You have exams…concentrate on them… I have better and more important thing in my life… called “life” to worry about…… and about the scrap you left me..well I deleted it without even reading…so I guess I make myself clear…talk to the hand if that’s what you want to talk about.

Ok fuck it…over and out!

Interesting.....

hmm...so i got my first job in the US and it was time for me to get the so called SSN(used by every other example in a database management system book as a primary key to identify an individual in US, though it was not meant to be an ID to be used for an employee or a customer by the companies). Anyways, i got to know an interesting fact today. India and USA have a treaty or an MOU according to which the Indian Students working in the US need not pay any TAXES!!!..yipppeee....now i understand what the diplomats do when they visit some other nation. Untill now i considered them as some gregarious junkets.

Well, Thank You my dear diplomat:)

for my pay cheque, what i see is what i will get:)

Excerpts from a Rata Tata's Interveiw on Nano to TOI

Q: What sparked off the idea?

A: In this particular case, you could not help but notice there were three-four family members on a scooter with a kid standing in the front, the guy driving and his wife sitting side saddle holding a little kid. When you are driving a car, you say to yourself to be careful, you know they may slip and fall. Add to that slippery roads and night time riding and you have a reasonably dangerous form of transport. That does not mean scooters should not exist—it's an evolution of bicycles and it's the path to prosperity. But, scooters as family transport seemed dangerous. I asked myself if we could put two wheels at the back to give the scooter greater stability. Would it make it safe for the occupants if you put a bar over the top? Last year, I was at Bertoni and to my surprise I found that BMW had produced a scooter with the same safety bars that I had thought about with rubber bumpers on the side and a seat which had a seat belt. Apparently it was not successful and BMW withdrew it.

I set about thinking if we could make a four wheel vehicle from scooter parts. At an ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association) meeting I even suggested an Asian people's car—a really low-cost car that Malaysia, Indonesia and India could produce jointly. I got no response. The only person who showed encouragement was [Hero group's] Brij Mohan Munjal, but we never really took it further. We found later that using scooter parts is a real limitation.

So we changed tack. We decided to look at everything from scratch. I thought that we could have a car made from engineering plastics that would not be welded but use adhesives. But some of these concepts did not lend themselves to costs or volume manufacturing. So we moved on to a more conventional kind of car.

That led us to configure a small car which would be a full-fledged car. We started again in an evolutionary way. It started with a concept of being a four-wheeled rural car. Do we have roll up plastic curtains instead of windows? Do we have openings like autorickshaws have instead of doors, but have a safety bar? We had many such early concepts and we finally decided that the market did not want a half car. If we wanted to build a people's car it should be a car and not something that people would say, 'That is a scooter with four wheels or an autorickshaw on four wheels'. And so we decided to do a car and really pare the cost.

Tee Cee / Eye Pee

This year Google's New Year Logo celebrates the 25 years of TCP/IP protocol. TCP/IP which virtually runs the whole internet. It was introduced by ARPANET on January 1, 1983. TCP/IP basically provides a reliable data transfer on the otherwise non-secure and unreliable channels.

Something which pisses me off!!

Back in India we always thought about Americans to be jingoists; that they are over possessive and too proud with ostentatious love for America. But when i came to New York, I wish if we Indians could take just 10% of the jingoism from the Americans, India could really churn out some very good leaders and citizens. I have had some personal experiences when I was annoyed at the other person(my fellow Indian) for being too impassive towards India.
One very banal statement that we tend to hear from an Indian is, "Kya diya hai india ne?"(What has India given to me?) What was more distressing was to hear this from an IITian.

I had the Indian National Flag on my wall when i was in India, and i have it here as well.
But i was really annoyed when someone from my visiting friends just giggled at the site of it, as if it was something alien to us. Like it was something very very out of ordinary. And the reason for this post is that i witnessed this "foolish giggle" again today; right here in America and again by an Indian guy. Now tell me...what the fuck is wrong with the flag...is the color combination absurd? i don't think so......that's just the case with the National Flag. Some patriotic Indian song just turns off people. Why is that so? I have never understood the reason. But i don't know what to feel for such Indians. People who cannot celebrate being Indian. People who sham their identity.

A person who tries to show his/her love for India through some quotes in his Orkut/Facebook or Gmail profile, is mocked at. "yeh to fuddu hai" is a comment on him.... and i feel guilty that i am not able to stand up to this self centered Indian mocking at a fellow countryman.
I have not done anything great in my life....but still i feel that we should be atleast more compassionate towards our country and respect the sentiments that others have towards India.

If you feel that India has not given you anything, then please introspect and tell what have you given to India?
There is something more to be an Indian than simply cheering for the Indian Cricket Team!
If you cannot respect your land, then you can't respect yourself.

PHD....seriously!

Whoaa!!! now this phd comic is so true, though it is pretty much on the dot every time:) , delineating the life of our fraternity, The Graduate Students. The souls who wander on the campus like zombies.
It's the winter break, the school seems deserted, empty parking lots, hollow corridors, closed kitchens, battered vending machines, horrible shuttle service and I am sitting here amongst these empty chairs of the Library, trying to learn things for a better future. Gosh! it really is dismal. Need to write a paper during this period, look for an oncampus job(and ironically, all the offices are closed aswell), and measure my chances of taking up thesis else just be content with a major project for the MS....what else i do....well in terms of diet, 2 chicken legs a day, egg scheme(a compromised invention involving left overs from the previous night, renovating it with a couple of eggs)...and just pushing it down the food pipe without much thought.., 2-3 horror movies a day and being rebuked by my gf over this issue..... how else can she expect me to survive in such nongregarious conditions?

Mistyfying me!

Physical love is the easy part. You can get it around at every second corner. you just need to have the urges. The harder part is loving someone from the bottom of the heart. You need to feel the warmth of the breathe even miles away. Getting a kiss on the cheek when you never ask for it. Talking on the phone intermittent with moments of silence; and then thinking about the conversation for a long time after hanging up. I have denied love untill this moment. She is there..she is always there, i know...but i just can't reciprocate.I am so tied..so feeble and so profane!Oh! i have sinned....sorry i want to say, but i can't.truth i want to say, but i can't..love i want to share, but i can't..i want to curb the lie, but i can't...i just can't..i need her with me..but i can't want her.

So it is 2 O’ Clock in the night and I just woke up yet again from a “half awake” sleep. I have a weird ability (call it ability or unnatural behavior) to wake up in the middle of the night and pen or key down my thoughts. Nearly 90% of my poetry, writings and blog posts have materialized in the height of the nocturnal.

I like writing. I like it a lot, but the devil of procrastination and laid back attitude always muffles the inner voice. May be I too need a trip to Mecca to throw a few stones at the Satan :)
Well, today I am going to write about something which should have been here a long ago. Anyway, it’s never too late. Oh yes! Let me just put forth a quote I wrote a few weeks back to excuse my long sleeping hours. “It does not matter how long you sleep; what is more important is what you do after you wake up”
Gosh! Ignorance is bliss, certainly!

My experiences with We Volunteer, a place, haven, incorporation, dance floor, coffee shop, evolution, idea, movement, coterie, I have so many different perceptions of it. It was the January of 2007 and I had just returned from the New Year trip to “Vaishno Devi”. The trip was important and memorable for so many reasons. One, it was going to be the last trip with a couple of very very close friends and second, I was just zapped after completing a “pain in the ass” application procedure for the graduate program that I am into right now. But I think that period while I was running around for my applications were just a mere façade with respect to the current picture. But I sure don’t want to go back :)
So I had some six months at hand before crossing the border. When a person enters college, he/she always breeds a desire to work over some social aspect in life. I had them too. But the undergraduate years were just too involving for me in terms of searching for things which now seem to be irrelevant. Yeh! Wasted a lot of time. So I decided to join some organization which was into social work, during the time I had before starting the MS. O! hail Google. I jotted down a few numbers and office addresses I managed to gather from some websites.

The first place where I went was the AIDS awareness society of Chandigarh. It is a very active organization in the city and it was the first choice because I had always carried an AID awareness symbol on my bike’s number plate. The office was under some kind of renovation and I was guided to some other location. But the devil of procrastination crept in and I thought of making a call to some other organization. I called up at Preet’s number and obviously he answered the call :) I went to meet him at Stuce PU that day. The meeting was fine, though I don’t really recall much of it. Anyways, I joined the group at their next weekend event. It was Saturday I think and the event took place at Pustak, a school run by an NGO named YTTS for the slum children in sector 25, chandigarh. I participated in all the future events that took place at Pustak. They were fun in so many different ways. First, it brings you in direct contact with the kids which just gives you a high:)

Second, you tend to learn from the kids, but you don’t…lol
As my association with We Volunteer continued, a strange thing happened; so many people took a step back and were never to be seen again for any of the events and meetings. I can state the reasons very bluntly here :). But I would just keep mum and give a nice, diplomatic reason. Since all the people in the organization, are and were, students, they have their constraints. Duh! I wana throw it out at being so humble…lol. Anyways, let’s not waste characters on them. Infact, now the real roller coaster ride starts. We started a couple new projects, beggar rescue and alternate source of income (which kaval was taking good care of). Both the projects went well. Infact these two would actually become the pillars of We Volunteer at a later stage.
The hand bags that Kaval and company made sold pretty well. This made my belief stronger, girls purchase anything. We once made Paper Bags on a Saturday morning and sold them to a boutique for 500 bucks.

By the time it was April, We Volunteer was reduced to three people :). Me, Preet and Kaval. But, as they(I) say, “a tripod is worth a hundred”. From here on began a new journey, a dedicated effort towards a single focal point “Child Beggars”. Sector 17 shopping plaza became our second office. We sat around with child beggars at the plaza, interacted with them, told and listened to stories, their childish lies, their bollywood names, their unique games and playing toys, rowdy fights, energy and lack of patience and from here only started my affair with Pooja…hehehee.

One thing I hated to see was people stopping by and just gawking at us idly while we were sitting along with the kids at the plaza. They had nothing to say, nothing to do, nothing to offer, they just “Looked”. Why? Is there some show going on?
So this group of kids ultimately became our very first students. The class was held at around noon until 1:30, 5 days a week. We were not able to teach the kids much, but they sure taught us more :). There were so many challenges, for the kids as well as for us and I think me on my personal perspective, failed at delivering much. Kudos to Navnee and Ankita, who dared to make it to the class in the sweltering heat to take the class. The sessions continued for more than two months and then it crashed all of a sudden due to an event which took place hundreds of miles away from Chandigarh.

But then you can’t stop the river from flowing. With time, newer members joined in with a few old ones too, rejuvenating their spirits. And, a new child was born, “Yuva Parliament”. I won’t say that this was the most successful project that we undertook because all the things we did no matter how miniscule their impact was it gave us more confidence and questions to ponder over. But Yuva Parliament in its identity is a majestic and grand way of doing things the youthful way. Yuva Parliament has been into three sessions until now.
Once I had an essay to write on the topic, “If I you were the Prime Minister of India”. I was clueless on what to write. I think I have the answer now.

hazaaron khwahishen aisi, ki har khwahish par dum nikle.

Wooo!! long time since the last post. Well it's been one hell of an experience since then.
Anyways, i won't go into the details of that....
So what do we have in hand now... need to revamp and rejuvenate the blog to some extent.
maybe change the content of the posts..so many ideas..yet not much action untill now...
Just finished with the first semester exams...went OK!!... i am not really good at getting high grades...so i don't expect much..
Well, I have set a few goals for this vacation... let's see if i can manage to achieve them..
infact they are kind of vital for a "frustration free" next semester.

one thing i would really love to do is... to emulate the good thing about the american culture.
i need to learn "how to fit everything within 24 hrs"

that's one very nice thing about it...

Social Musings

The first impression that comes to the mind when someone mentions “Social Service” is of a person wearing a khaddi kurta with a cholla hung over his one shoulder and teaching unprivileged children. Is that what involves “Social Service”?.....trust me…it is nothing of that sort. Doing some social service does not always mean that you are taking classes of kids in the slums or promoting condoms in the most remotest of places.

Social Service is a very broad term, involving any deed or action done to improve a person or the society as a whole. Or it could be bringing smiles on the children begging in streets, selling balloons at traffic signals, running around with tea glasses to sell. As I mentioned…any “deed or action” no matter how minuscule the effort is. It’s so easy to shoo away a kid asking for alms and badgering you for a long time. But, have you ever wondered, what that kid does the whole day? How does he spend his free time? Does he have any dreams? Any needs and desires? What is the aim of his life? What could be his future?....just ponder over these questions..

Coming back to social service…even if you visit a slum along with your friends for a Saturday rather than “checking out the crowd”, gather some kids there and play guitar/play dumb charades/sing songs…just for one single day in a week, month, year…..that is certainly social service. How would that help? You might take such things for granted but these little little nuances collapse the social barrier in the society..and smiles…the smiles that you will bring on their faces will be just like having a splash in water during summers.

As they say, “Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day”

Everyone cries against reservations…..i did too….leave aside the political will in the reservation policy……..but do you give a sweeper the status equal to yours?

I guess not…

Just muse over your social responsibilities, your love for India, your pay-back to the society and your actions towards a child beggars…..answers will flow.

I request all of you…yes all of you..”THE YOUTH” to step out and Initiate….

1. Spreading awareness about social issues is social service.
2. Portraying a better picture infront of the foreigners is social service.
3. Helping a slum kid with his homework is social service,
4. Taking a slum kid to a dinner with your friends on your birthdays, parties, or any get-together..is a social service,
5. Taking a child beggar/slum kid for a mini ride on your bike/car/scooter is social service,
6. Buying him/her a new set of chappals is social service.
7. Using dustbins for waste is social service,
8. Arranging a movie screening in some slum just for one day in an year is social service,
9. Clicking a snap on your mobile phone posing with an unprivileged child …..
10. Asking the name of an unprivileged child is social service
*and last but not the least…. passing a smile to an unprivileged child is Social Service ………….

Keep Initiating!!!

"Life's Like That"

Long time and nothing better than pictures and small text is all that i posted on my blog since a long time.Well, i think today i may have something to key down to satiate my blogs hunger for words-to some extent. Though i can do
away without mentioning anything today aswell...but just to force the issue on to this once lively entity, i will do the needful.
O Hell!, i am such a big procrastinator.

ok..so what do i have to write...
ammm!!..It's about a promenade i took under the nocturnal setup of sky, with a facade of clouds making the moon a prisoner behind the cloudy sheet. Well you might think that what's in a walk to put it down on the blog and eat up the invaluable database space, especially when it's Walk all alone? But if i tell you about the special thing in the walk you might end up pitying me for some reason. So i'll keep that special or peculiar thing to figure out on your own.

As i was absent mindedly turning the pages of a book in the late afternoon, poring over the solutions of the word "LIFE", i suddenly realised
that i hadn't shaved my beard for a couple of weeks(do not frown;there have been longer gaps between the bushed and the glassy looks:-)ok, so here i was grabbing the paraphernalia to get down with the business of giving up the growth. It took some time to get over with the ordeal and thank GOD, without any cuts. And, my face was again resembling the photograph on my passport...Good, atleast somethings din't change in the past 3-4 months...As the sparks of ideas continued to effervesce out of my brain, i decided to take a look at the Lake in my city..Yes! there is lake in my city, beautifully kept, with somewhat muddy water because of silt and an amazing side-walk along its perimeter. A lake which is an area of activity all day long, summer or winter. And most amazingly, a lake to which i had not been to for the past 3-4 years. No No don't blame me for this. It's far away from my house(though Chandigarh is only 16 Kms in radius)...but you know...i have been busy all this time...yeh! yeh!..ok i agree i am making excuses for not being there for all this time. Anyways, this
is it and i broke the hiatus....a truce reached, a landmark of an event:)....
So as my mom got home, i slipped into my track suite, grabbed the keys and off with the car, enroute to the most awaited event...hehehe!

Making my way from one corner of the city to the greens and blues of the city beautiful.Meandering through the army of vehicles flowing on the busy roads, i reached the lake in a "songs' time"
As i hit the track, i could see the similar vista which greets every stroller along the lake "Sukhna" during the night. A necklace formed of some flickering and some static lights glowing in the distant far on the opposite banks of the lake. The sky was dark and misty, with a gush of wind flowing through the empty volume encapsuled between the earth and the sky. Amidst this criss-cross of lights and wind energy, i could hear a far cry of a duckling or may be a swan or may be a man peeing, entertaining himself with some sounds. Or may be it was ALL INDIA RADIO from some hut in the wilderness on the oppsite banks.
I'll leave the sound to your imagination. Ambling my way on the Walk-Way along the water, beating the slow paced strangers, i was on my way to freedom, alone and in ambivalence.

Cutting my way past the sparse crowd and walking past the hushed whispers love birds huddled together, cozying around with no apprehensions about the public stare. But i must say; it was one hell of a romantic evening. Wind, smell of wet soil from the drizzle in the evening, night, clouds, water and the superficial stars flickering at the distance. Wish i had her here today..:)...but there are tradef-offs to be made....lets leave the couples in peace...shhhhh!!
I walked on the curved track which seems to meet those flickering lights at the distant horizon. And yaaaaaaa...one thing i forgot to mention....usually people who walk alone in the dark..are looked after specially by the cops on the
bicycle....reasons, well coz there have been cases of suicides in the lake...GOD GIVES PEACE TO THEIR SOULS...So the cops try to bee as vigilant as possible...but luckily or call it unluckily, no cop was following me:)...may be i seem to be over excited ...ehehehhe!...little do they know:).In between, i made a call to someone....and then had a fight over some petty issue(and then i said sorry when i came home...and then again had a fight over something at the end of the conversation...hehehhee!!..stupid of us)
The wind was still blowing in heavy currents. With raised collars of my jacket, hands half closed allowing the wind to pass through the emptiness between by fingers and the palm as if i was holding some kind of sword made of wind to cut down my worries to pieces. Walking for some 3-4 Kms, i decided to turn and walk back to my car. So i turned and walked past the couples who were still busy in their own fantasy lands, unaware and unconcerned about the others present at the scene.....

Atlast, i came back to the parking lot, with flashes of the recent and not so recent past speeding infront of my eyes.

Memories are such strange things in the abyss of one's heart. A part of you ressurects them every now and then, and a part of you rues them because the inflict pain whenver they spring back...Within this ambivalence of thoughts i started the ignition of the car and accelerated on the road to my home...Nice evening, full of nothing but deviod of somethings.

Bas Ek Pal!!
