HANGED
Well if you talk of Mumbai, so many things take shape in your mind. The buzzing night life, the glitter of the film stars, the ravishing models, the necklace of the marine drive, the colossal chaos on the roads, the soaring prices, the amalgamation of varied cultures, the sturdy inhabitants and not to forget, the dexterous “dabbawalas”. But there is something other than all this, peeping out on each and every corner in Mumbai. Trying to allure you with a girl smiling thorugh her luscious lips, a finger pointing towards you, as if you have just been chosen by Amitabh Bachchan to dine with him, or Sachin Tendulkar wooing to bat you into his endorsed brand. Well by know you must have guessed what I am talking about.
Yes, the talk is about the HOARDINGS. Mumbai and Chennai are the only two cities (according to my watery knowledge) in India, which allow hoardings at virtually every procurable space and place. But what’s amazing too see is that even the private housing complexes are going in for the hoardings atop there roofs. Well the idea is novel and materializes into good moolah. The money earned is usually visible at better facilities in the complexes. And you can see Shahrukh Khan hung at every roof top.
But a few pit at the fad as it blocks the aesthetic view of buildings (though one can only peep at small children opening their anus at Juhu Beach, of what’s supposed to be a sea facing panoramic view). But resistance or no resistance,

Hey...
Being a true blooded mumbaite...
I live with hoardings hung at all angles and places in the city...
While this is an easy and sure shot way of earning big bucks...
It is a sight spoiler...
Not only do these hoardings repeat faces we can see all day on the television...
But they obstruct the view of the skyline...
Dragging attention away from things of cultural and natural beauty scattered along the city to the make-up pasted faces of celebrities...
Not to mention that the electricity consumed to light up these hoardings eat into our supplies and cause power cuts...
Yeah make money...
And spoil the view...
Actually mumbai is such a fast city...
Who has the time to admire the sights anyways...
yup i agree with your point.
But where people find booty, and that too without much effort, they can go to any extent. unmindful of the fact that an aesthetic sense is as much necessary for living as are other things.
And this Ad Man world...well what to say about it...its every where
Sooner or later, we will have an ad by the printing house, on our degrees as well....
So just wait and watch..
Ola...
When i see these hoardings in my city(too many these days),i always wondered why cant the government use it for a better purpose!!,I mean rather than it being a medium for advertisment for commercial purpose,u can actually use it for spreading awarness regarding many social issues like (wt i feel personally)aids awareness;traffic regulations(use of wearing an helmet,..),environmental concerns related to usage of plastics;spreading some social messages etc,etc....
I guess i'am being too pragmatic....but i hope to see the change!!!
YES Vindhya good thought
AWARENESS cannot be encashed for booty....how would they stuff up thier pockets otherwise.
Thank GOD we have no hoardings here in Chandigarh
the MC even rips appart the banners hung by advertisers.
Phhewwww!!
